Janet is a partner in Schiff Hardin’s Real Estate Group and has been an associate and partner at Schiff Hardin since November 1980. Her current practice is concentrated in real estate transactions and development projects. Prior to becoming an attorney, Janet was employed by Cherry Burrell Corporation, Cedar Rapids, Iowa as an accountant.
Janet was the first woman member of the Board of Directors (and served for a number of years as Vice Chairman) of The Lutheran Church Extension Fund – Missouri Synod (LCEF). She also served as the Secretary and a Member of the Board of Regents of Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, and serves as a member of the Seminary’s Finance and Audit Committee. In addition, Janet has held leadership positions with the Lutheran Housing Support Corporation (LHS), Human Care Ministries Housing Committee, and the Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois (LCFS). Janet also served as the first woman member of the Board of Directors of The Northern Illinois District of the LCMS.
Janet is active in many capacities in her home congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church of Lisle, Illinois, including providing pro bono legal services to its building committees during renovations and expansions and currently is serving as a pro bono legal advisor to the staff dealing with issues related to Trinity’s multiple worship sites and the acceptance of a donation of a Chicago church for another worship site. She served on its governing board in 1992 and 1993 and prior to that served as a Sunday school teacher and on the advisory board to its preschool. She is involved with other community-based or religious, not-for-profit organizations, and provides pro bono legal services on general corporate and real estate matters. Since 1993, Janet has worked closely with an inner city Chicago congregation, Christ the King Lutheran Church, in connection with various real estate matters, and for Family Rescue, a Chicago non-profit that provides services to victims of domestic violence.
