The Women’s Leadership Institute conducted a large scale survey of Concordia University Wisconsin and Ann Arbor alumni, students, and other women affiliated with WLI to inform WLI programming. Over eight hundred people participated in the survey, which sought input on topics, format, and timing for future WLI programs. The education committee is using the data to develop new face-to-face and online programs.

One topic that received a very positive response from participants was intergenerational mentoring. Following the large scale survey and with support from a consultant, a few members of WLI formed the Intergenerational Mentoring Task Force and conducted focus interviews with women about mentoring relationships with people of varying ages. The team reviewed the notes from the focus interviews and used the themes that emerged to create a framework for program development. The Intergenerational Mentoring Task Force is currently designing a program to educate, encourage, and embolden Christian women to cultivate intergenerational mentoring programs in their churches. The program will include short video segments to stimulate discussion and a leader’s guide and participant guide with a menu of activities that can be adapted to fit the needs and goals of the participants. Our goal is to pilot the program this summer and launch the program to congregations early next fall.

Other topics that received a great deal of interest in the survey included conflict resolution, authentic leadership, work as a calling, and giving and receiving feedback. The WLI education committee is planning an early evening leadership workshop on the Concordia University Wisconsin campus, a regional Pressure Points workshop, and new offerings for our online academy that will feature some of these topics. Look for additional information about our new programs soon. In the meantime, please visit our website at http://wlicuw.org/ for more information about our online academy, articles on leadership, and more information about our intergenerational mentoring program.
